“Arriving at the beach, she reflected on her life.”
She gazed fondly ahead where, further down the beach, gallivanted her husband, two boys, and their chocolate lab. Her boys would jump into the waves, dad and dog giving chase, then run gaily giggling back out of the water to do it all again.
Genes are strange things, she thought, looking down at her little girl toddling along beside her, with a death grip on her mother’s thumb. All three of her children had blonde curls though both she and her husband had strict brown hair.
Her toddler stopped suddenly, loosening her death grip, to squat and stare at the rocky sand they stood on. Rocket, their dappled dachshund – now gray with years, plopped his rump down next to the little girl and sat sideways, blindly guarding one of his young charges.
As she gazed over the scene again, she smiled, content.

Sometimes with a limited word count it is difficult to “show” and we often lapse to “telling”. You did a good job “showing” me this. I really liked it.
